Tomorrow, on April 2nd, PBS will re-air "The Great Famine", an American Experience | PBS documentary based on "The Big Show in Bololand" (Stanford University Press , 2002) by Hoover Research Fellow Bertrand M. Patenaude. It tells the story of the American Relief Administration's efforts during the 1921 famine in the new Soviet Russia. The relief campaign was championed by Herbert Hoover, director of the American Relief Administration. For his efforts during and after World War I, Hoover became known as “the Great Humanitarian” who helped save millions of lives.
