The mob, who oppose President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election overwhelmed security at the U.S. Capitol and broke into the building on Wednesday, halting proceedings where Congress was poised to count the votes cast by the Electoral College. Multiple people were injured, including one person who was reportedly shot in the chest.

Pro-Trump supporters, ranging from QAnon promoters, Proud Boys, and a host of other far-right groups, have broken into the Capitol building as the joint session of Congress counted the Electoral College votes certifying Joe Biden’s victory. The Senate floor was immediately adjourned, as Vice President Pence was rushed off the floor by Secret Service, members of Congress were ordered to evacuate or shelter in place in their offices, and the entire Capitol was put into lockdown. It’s a terrifying, volatile situation that continues to unfold.
Before his supporters stormed the Capitol, Trump directly encouraged them to march to the building. And now he continues to tweet criticisms of Mike Pence, further inciting his supporters as they engage in violent sedition and put the safety of members of Congress (and their staffers, and Capitol Police) at risk. Congratulations to the party of “law and order” who enabled Trump’s hateful rhetoric and stoking of violence these past four years. Make no mistake: Every single Republican who was happily complicit throughout Trump’s presidency is directly responsible for today’s violence.

美國國會於1月6日下午1點（台灣時間7日2點）展開「選舉人票認證程序」。不過，從5日開始，全美各地的川普支持者，就開始在華盛頓特區集結。國會開議的同時，川普（Donald Trump）現身於白宮橢圓型草皮上，對「拯救美國」（Save America）集會支持者發表演說，繼續表達他對選舉與開票的質疑，堅稱自己是大選贏家，最後出言號召群眾走向國會：「我們不會讓你們被噤聲，我們不會讓這樣的事情發生……你無法以懦弱奪回我們的國家，你必須展現力量。」(We will not let them silence your voices. We’re not going to let it happen… You will never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength.)
華盛頓特區的市長包瑟爾（Muriel Bowser）在Facebook上宣告，華盛頓特區立刻進入「公共緊急狀態」（public emergency）15天，直到美國46屆新任總統就職日，2021年的1月20日為止。
■國民兵進入特區清場，混亂中1人中搶，3人因醫療的緊急狀況死亡
美東時間6日下午2點左右，群眾開始以人數優勢前進，特區警察出動催淚瓦斯和橡膠子彈，但群眾仍突破封鎖線，直闖國會山莊。國會議事即刻中止，所有議員、包含身兼參議院議長的副總統彭斯（Mike Pence）也被緊急護送撤離。混亂中，有一名女性中槍送醫，這位女性是一位空軍退伍軍人，服役過14年，傍晚宣告不治。美國警方在凌晨召開記者會表示，除了中槍不治的女性之外，還有3位民眾因醫療緊急狀況（medical emergencies）死亡，但細節仍不清楚。
3點半左右，國民兵開始進入特區協助清場；事後國防部證實，是由彭斯下令出動。最後，特區警局於晚間6點、華府宵禁啟動前，宣布完成國會清場；眾議院議長裴洛西（Nancy Pelosi）也表示會繼續召開聯席會議，進行選舉人票結果的認證程序。
美國國務卿龐皮歐（Mike Pompeo）在國會群眾事件發生後，於推特上公開譴責。他表示：「今天闖入美國國會山莊的事件是不可接受的。」共和黨參議院領袖麥康諾（Mitch McConnell）譴責道：「這次的襲擊是個失敗的暴動（failed insurrection）……我們過去不受威嚇，今天也不受威嚇。他們試圖破壞和擾亂我們的民主，但他們失敗了。」
多位政界人士呼籲川普公開要求支持者離開，但川普選擇4點20分於推特上發言：「當一個神聖的壓倒性勝選，被如此隨意與惡意的偉大的愛國者身上剝奪走，這些愛國者長期來都被惡劣與不公地對待，就會發生今晚這樣的事情與事件」、「我知道你們的感受，但現在先回家吧......我們必須有和平、必須有法律和秩序」。但這一連串的文字不久後都被推特以違反平台的「公民當責政策」（Civic Integrity Policy）為由封鎖，推特也進一步禁止他發推文，停權12個小時。
■副總統彭斯：「這是美國國會山莊黑暗的一天。」
國會清空恢復秩序後，彭斯回到議場主持參議院會議，他宣稱：「這是美國國會山莊黑暗的一天。」他接著批評：「那些在今日國會山莊造成破壞的人們，你們並沒有勝利」、「暴力永遠不會勝利、自由才會獲得勝利，這仍舊是人民的國會」。
在國會山莊群眾事件發生前，彭斯在6日一早發表一封公開信，信中表示，身為美國副總統他並沒有單方的權威來決定哪些選舉人票才算數，宣稱自己會謹守憲法的份際，不會推翻選舉人票的結果認證。但川普對於彭斯的反應顯然不太愉快，他在推特表示，「彭斯沒有勇氣去做保護我們國家與憲法應該做的事。」
在國會山莊恢復秩序後，參眾議員在當晚重新回到國會開會。原本公開宣示會反對選舉人計票的幾位共和黨參議員，有幾位出現立場動搖，包括才剛於喬治亞州敗選的共和黨參議員洛弗勒（Kelly Loeffler）也表示，在今日這種嚴峻的情況下，她決定改變立場，支持認證程序正常進行。從這幾位共和黨參議員立場的轉變，可以看到此次國會山莊的群眾事件，改變了部份參議員對川普的支持。
在參眾議員輪番上台對群眾事件表達看法後，議員們開始對部份共和黨議員所提出的「反對計算選舉人投票」提案（簡稱「反對案」），進行表決。目前參眾兩院恢復聯席會議中，對總統選舉結果逐州認可投票結果。
此外，主要幾個民主國家的領袖與組織都紛紛表示支持彭斯的決定，希望川普政府可以將政權平和地轉交給總統當選人拜登。歐盟執委會主席范德賴恩（Ursula von der Leyen）在推特上表示相信民主的力量，並且期待未來與拜登合作。英國首相強森（Boris Johnson）發文譴責，認為美國國會發生的事件相當可恥（disgraceful scenes）。而法國總統馬克宏（Emmanuel Macron）在他的推特上發言，表示對美國的民主有信心。（文／李雪莉、張詩芸、楊智強；圖／AFP Photo）
