川普總統宣稱有300萬到500萬的非法移民把票投給了希拉蕊，致使他未能贏得普選。白宮新聞發言人斯派塞也支持了這一說法，並提出兩項研究作為依據。
但通過事實核查可以發現，這兩項研究均無法支持川普的說法。其中一項研究更是建立在錯誤的數據基礎上，已經受到了政治學者的嚴厲指責。
